The First Few Weeks of SchoolThe first day of school, everyone was nervous to see our classroom and Ms. Fargo. The day was really exciting and overall fun!!! The first week of school we did not have any homework (well, we had to read for twenty to thirty minutes). We had so much fun doing activities the first week of school. For example, we completed “All About Me” bags. For this activity, we took home a paper bag and put five things that represent us in the bag and brought the bag back to school. We then shared the bags in front of the classroom. We also worked in groups to complete the marshmallow challenge. In this challenge we had a contest to see which group could make the tallest tower out of spaghetti, string, and tape. That’s not all! A marshmallow had to stay on top of the tower. The second week of school was only four days long because it was Labor Day (yay!). Starting the second week of school, we began learning fifth grade math, science, reading, writing and social studies. In social studies, we began by learning all about famous explorers and why they explored. Our teacher Ms. Fargo is such a great teacher and I am pretty sure everyone in the class can agree. We currently have a great dojo score so hopefully we will win class of the month! The Current News!!In math, we are working on Module 1! We have already taken two math quizzes and they went great. We do not have too much math homework because Ms. Fargo gives us time in class to get started, but we do have to watch math videos on the next day’s lesson. Mr. Luu’s math videos are fun and you learn a lot. This helps us prepare and get the most out of the next day’s lesson. In social studies we are learning about explorers, such as Christopher Columbus. In class we are working on an explorer's packet and we are going to have our first social studies test this week. We are all very worried, but excited because it is open packet! Fun, Fun and More Fun!In class we are listening to Ms. Fargo read, “Because of Mr. Terrupt.” This is such a great book and we are so excited to read more. The book is about a group of kids who really do not get along, but somehow they become friends (thanks to Mr. Terrupt). I would tell you more, but I do not want to spoil the book or the ending at all if you are going to read it. In writing, we are working on generating ideas for personal narrative and writing about small moments and people, places, and things that are special to us. P.S. Since we are talking about reading, on October 27 our book reports and character pumpkins are due! Chromebooks and Technology!Everyone in our class loves Ms. Fargo’s class and one of the reasons is because we get to use the chromebooks almost every day! We even took our social studies test on the chromebooks! We go on Google Classroom a lot to complete assignments (which we can even access at home). We use the Chromebooks a lot more in fifth grade than we did in fourth grade. Working on the Chromebooks to complete assignments is so much fun and I cannot wait until middle school when we get our very own Chromebook to take them home with us!!! I can’t wait to go to the TL Makerspace with Ms.Fargo since she has such cool activities planned for us! P.S. Since we are talking about technology, follow Ms. Fargo on twitter because she posts a lot of pictures showing what we are doing and working on in class. @MsFargoTLS Coming Soon!!!There are many things to look forward to this year and coming up soon! We are going to have a Halloween parade in a few weeks! Everyone is going to dress up for the Halloween parade. Who doesn't love Halloween? We also watched Caine’s Arcade and we are going to be working in groups and participating in the Global Cardboard Challenge to create our very own cardboard arcade games. Everyone is so excited!
P.S. Please bring/send cardboard :)
